Bloody Monday For News World
Don Lemon and Tucker Carlson were both fired from their respective networks, CNN and Fox News, on Monday, April 24, 2023. The firings came as a surprise to many, as both Lemon and Carlson were among the most popular and well-known anchors on their respective networks.
The reasons for the firings are not entirely clear, but it is believed that they are related to a number of factors, for Lemon, it includes declining ratings, misogynistic comments, as well as a “business decision” due to new management per to a source from the CNN Network. Don Lemon tweeted Monday, “I am stunned”. The network has also been facing criticism for its handling of a number of stories, including the sexual assault allegations against former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.
Tucker Carlson's firing comes after Fox News was hit with a $787.5 million defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems. The lawsuit alleges that Carlson defamed Dominion by making false and defamatory statements about the company on his show, Tucker Carlson Tonight.
It is unclear what Lemon and Carlson will do next. Lemon has said that he is "exploring all of my options," while Carlson has not commented publicly on his future plans.
The firings of Lemon and Carlson are a sign of the changing landscape of the media industry. As more and more people get their news from online sources, traditional cable news networks are facing increasing competition. This competition is forcing networks to make tough decisions about how to allocate their resources and who to keep on their payroll.
It remains to be seen how the firings of Lemon and Carlson will impact the future of cable news. However, it is clear that the industry is in a state of flux, and that more changes are likely to come in the years ahead.
Don Lemmon has been a critic of Tucker Carlson and vice versa. The irony is, both were terminated from their high profile prime time spots on the same day.
